FAQ: Showreel Shoots

Without a compelling Showreel, it’s very difficult to book work as a screen actor at all. Training at JJ Splice equips you with the technical, craft and creative skills to put yourself in serious contention for real roles in film and television, and gives you the finished scenes to prove it.

JJ Splice has worked with actors since 2012, and we’re proud of what our actors have gone on to do. We can’t guarantee where your career goes, but we can guarantee you’ll leave with the tools and the proof of work to give yourself a real shot.

No! There are countless very successful actors who never studied acting. What matters is that you’re committed to your own success. We find that actors with little or no on-screen experience learn a huge amount about acting for camera when they work with us.

If you’re just starting out, you might benefit from some training in screen acting before committing to shooting a Showreel. JJ Splice offers an 8-week Foundation course for those beginning their journey, and you shoot a Showreel scene inside the course.

We have a huge catalogue of actors we’ve collaborated with in the past, and many are thrilled to come back as Scene Partners. When you book your Showreel shoot date and choose the scenes you’re filming, we put you in touch with enthusiastic actors who suit your scenes and will support your work.

When you confirm your Showreel days, we customise a selection of scenes for you to choose from, based on your objectives, your personal branding and your acting style. There are so many sources of great material that translates beautifully to the screen.

We shoot in or around our professional studio in Surry Hills. The studio is purpose-built with pre-rigged lights, which saves a lot of time on set. Lighting is controlled digitally, so we can be ultra-precise and create incredible cinematography for your Showreel in much less time, and to a higher standard, than on location. For exterior scenes there are many great locations nearby that give us a wide range of looks.

We send you the finished work as Ultra HD (3840 × 2160) digital files you can stream, share and download. If you’ve booked a Full Showreel Package, we also embed your Clips Reel on your own professional website, which we make for you.

We deliver the finished scenes and Monologues within two weeks of the shoot date. Once you’ve viewed the material and discussed your Clips Reel with us, we deliver the Clips Reel edit within one week.

Yes, absolutely! If you already know who will appear in your scene, you can share the costs with the other actor. You can choose to have the edit made so that you share equal screen time, or request two different versions of the scene for a small extra fee.

You can sign up for a Payment Plan and cover the production costs over 10 weeks. Many actors recoup the cost of their Showreel as soon as they book their next acting job. If you’ve invested in drama school, acting classes, accent coaching, headshots or anything else to get your career underway, you understand that investing in your career is an important part of your success. Yes! We offer a scholarship of 15% to 75% off the cost of a Full Showreel Package. We can only award a limited number of scholarships each year, and they’re based on merit.

The scholarship is open to student actors; actors experiencing financial hardship; and actors who are part of a marginalised or under-represented community, including actors with disability, and transgender, First Nations and immigrant actors.

To learn more, book a Strategy Call and tell us about your scholarship request.
