Who it's for
Actors starting their journey with limited screen acting experience, and actors who aren't yet sure they want to commit to the full Screen Craft and want to experience JJ Splice first.
When it is
Wednesday evenings, 6:00pm–9:00pm, for 8 weeks.
How much it is
$187 per week, incl. GST ($1,496 total).
Or $1,421 upfront (with 5% discount for upfront payment).

Why Foundation works
Foundation is not a taster course. It's a compressed version of the same transformation the full Screen Craft delivers — the same working studio, the same production standards, the same director.
In eight weeks you go from a first read-through to a finished, broadcast-quality Showreel scene, shot under real production conditions — with you and your fellow actors as the crew.
You don't need experience to start. What you need is the willingness to show up, do the work between sessions, and be genuinely present in the room.
By the end, you'll know exactly what it feels like to work as a screen actor — and exactly whether you want more of it.
The journey
Eight weeks. One scene.
Your playground to discover your instrument.
Every session builds toward the same moment: seeing yourself, finished, on the big screen — screened alongside Screen Craft's graduating cohort, so you see exactly where the path leads.
Week 1
Meet the room, meet the Principles
Learn the Dean Francis Principles, get to know your collaborators in a safe space, and begin the journey toward unlocking truth within yourself and your character.
Week 2
Meet your scene from the inside out
Strip away the comfort of the text and come into close proximity with your instincts — then watch it back on a 10ft screen with an audience. Confronting but incredible.
Week 3
Ground the scene in the real world
Step into the text with a grounded sense of the world. Scenework in the multi-cam studio, switched live in front of the group.
Week 4
Your final rehearsal, under honest eyes
Your final filmed rehearsal, played back for honest, generous critique by the group.
Self-directed hiatus
You take it into your own world
A break between class sessions and the shoot — not counted among your 8 weeks of class, just a weekly Zoom check-in to keep you on track. This is where you take your scene back into your personal world and make profound discoveries — embracing lived experience, going on research missions, and taking part in pre-recorded trainings.
Weeks 5–8 · Shoot weeks
You shoot it, and you watch it become real
You and your scene partner shooting your scene on professional motion picture cameras under studio lights, directed by a 25-year veteran of the film industry. For real. This is what it's all come down to.
If you're not filming your scene you're performing a vital crew role, seeing the set from a unique perspective and supporting your fellow actors. It's a special process which transcends any expectations of an "acting class".
Week 9 · Special bonus screening week
Your work, on the big screen — with the graduating Screen Craft cohort
Screen your work alongside the students enrolled in the Screen Craft Intensive program. You leave with a finished, broadcast-quality scene of your own, and a clear, first-hand answer to the question that brought you here: is this the path you want to keep walking? And if the answer is yes, you've got a clear sense of where that path can take you.
