Work in a small group to master screen acting techniques that often take years on set to learn. Develop your work in a professional multi-cam film studio where you're always on camera and constantly watching scenes back on the big screen.
Uncover the nuance of the professional film set, interacting with the same tools found on major Hollywood productions.
Over 8 weeks you'll develop a dialogue scene from first read to a Cinema-Quality Showreel scene, shot under real production conditions with the same director throughout.
You'll gain a genuine insight into screen craft and leave with a Showreel scene to start building your career as a working actor in film & TV — and if you want to go further, Screen Academy Foundation leads directly into our 30-week Intensive, with a discount off the weekly rate for graduates who continue.
If you're reading this, you can be one of only eight students welcomed into the Academy this intake.
Closing soon. Stop waiting. Apply now.

Dean Francis is an acclaimed director, cinematographer and acting coach who has directed three award-winning feature films including BODY BLOW, which is on general release in 2026 throughout the world. He's been nominated for AACTA awards for Best Independent Film and Best Short Film. He has taught at NIDA, AFTRS, JMC, SAE and Screenwise.
What makes him unusual as a teacher: he trains people on both sides of the camera. Few teachers come at acting from the perspective of a working film director with lived experience about what makes an actor compelling, genuinely collaborative and employable.
“This is the third scene I've made here, and off the back of it, I'm going to London next year to work on a feature film.”
“It made me realise it's good to be in the room with a director. They can really evolve the scene into something you never thought of. It was some of the best direction I've had.”
“I would recommend this course to anyone who is interested in learning and growing and coming out with a kick-ass Showreel!”
“Within eight weeks I felt like I'd gone from a preschooler to a high school graduate. This year alone I've booked four feature commercials.”
“This course pushed me to find parts of myself I'd kept hidden, mostly out of fear... I really recommend the JJ Splice Showreel course.”
“Dean is an amazing tutor and he really explained everything in a way that everyone would understand.”
A few questions about your background and goals as an actor. Takes around five minutes.
A conversation with the teacher about where you're at and what you want — no obligation to move forward, just a chance to see if this is the right fit.
Join up to 7 other actors for the full 8-week Foundation course, one night per week. You'll leave with real on-set experience and a Showreel scene to start building your career in film & television.
The Intensive is the full 30-week journey — the same working studio, the same production standards, the same director, just with more time to go deeper. You'll shoot two professional Showreel scenes plus two Monologues, and leave with your own online portfolio.

No prior experience or audition is needed for the 8-week Foundation course — it's designed as a genuine starting point.
For the 30-week Screen Craft Intensive, it's preferable that you have some degree of screen acting experience or training — this can include short courses completed at other institutions, or our own Foundation course.
Nothing lost — the application and interview are free. If it's not the right fit yet, we'll say so honestly.
Yes. Enrolling is a commitment to the full 8 weeks, not a drop-in arrangement — your scene partner depends on your attendance. Classes run one evening a week so they don't clash with daytime work.
If you're after a longer, more in-depth program, our 30-week Intensive is worth a look too.
You'll work with RED Digital Cinema cameras — the same system used to shoot Oscar-winning motion pictures — alongside wireless lapel microphones and professional studio lighting, so your Showreel scene looks completely cinematic.
During multi-cam shoots, we work with two cameras — one per actor — switching live between both, the way soap operas and sitcoms are filmed. During your Showreel shoots, you work single-camera across multiple setups, shots and takes, the way cinematic motion pictures are captured.

Five minutes' walk from Central Station, accessible by train, bus and light rail.
Without a compelling Showreel, it's very difficult to book work as a screen actor at all. Training at JJ Splice equips you with the technical, craft and creative skills to put yourself in serious contention for real roles in film and television — and gives you the finished scenes to prove it.
JJ Splice has worked with actors since 2012, and we're proud of what our students have gone on to do. We can't guarantee where your career goes, but we can guarantee you'll leave with the tools and the proof of work to give yourself a real shot.
